Get open after passing
Cue
Move into a useful passing lane.
Principle
Most of the game is played without the ball.
Set-up
Groups of three, one ball, two cone gates. Two attackers against one defender. Pass, then find another available passing lane. A return pass through a different gate scores 1. Rotate roles after three attempts. The defender provides information, not just an obstacle.
Where this fits
By layer
| Layer 0Aware | After the pass, run to an empty spot. |
| Layer 1Control | Make a new passing lane after your pass. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | 2-on-2 with more than one receiver. |
How do you coach it?
Player-centred: variation, questions and room to find a solution.
Precise correction of form is not the criterion here.

Easier
Larger space; defender shadows slowly.
Harder
2v2, more than one possible receiver.
Question to observe
Does the player change space and timing after passing?
