Lava 3-on-3
Don't stop in the lava.
Principle
The lava is about stopping, not shooting. A good shot from the midrange is fine.
Set-up
Half court, 3-on-3. The midrange (between the paint and the three-point line) is lava: mark it with cones or tape.
Rules
In the lava you may not stop or stand still: no dead dribble, no parking without the ball. Running, driving or cutting through it is fine. A good shot from the lava is fine too.
Scoring
Score = 2. Standing still or a dead dribble in the lava = ball to the defence. A contested throw does not count.

Solves AwarenessShot selection
By layer
| Layer 0Aware | Play it as tag without a ball: whoever stands still in the lava is out, and comes straight back in. |
| Layer 1Control | With the ball: stand outside or keep going to the smiley. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Cut through the lava without the ball to make space for the driver. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Force the defence to help in the lava, and find the pass there. |
How do you coach it?
Intensity, emotion and consequence. The coach protects the rules and stops play as little as possible.
Long explanations and technical correction during play do not belong here.
