Look before you catch
Cue
Look, catch, go.
Principle
A decision starts before the catch.
Set-up
Threes: passer, receiver, and a defender behind the receiver who shows one or two fingers or a side.
Rules
The receiver looks over the shoulder before the ball arrives and chooses on the catch: one finger = shot, two = drive, side = drive that way. Then live.

By layer
| Layer 0Aware | Colour game: the coach calls a colour, the player runs to that cone and catches there. |
| Layer 1Control | Look and choose on a sign. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Read the closeout before the ball arrives. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Include the help defender in the choice. |
How do you coach it?
Player-centred: variation, questions and room to find a solution.
Precise correction of form is not the criterion here.
