Passing
Getting the ball to a teammate at the right moment, past a defender.
Cue
Pass to their hands.
Why
A pass is only good if it is caught and the teammate can do something with it. Form follows purpose.
When can they do it?
| Layer 0Aware | Throws the ball so a partner can catch it. |
| Layer 1Control | Passes chest, bounce and overhead on the move and off a pivot. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Passes past a defender with a fake first. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Passes a teammate into a better position than they saw themselves. |
What to watch
- Look before you pass
- Step into the pass
- Around the defender, not over
What often goes wrong
Passing to where someone is instead of where they're going.
