Move and stop, head up
Run, stop and turn in balance while seeing what happens around you.
Cue
Stop soft, look up.
Why
Everything that comes later, with the ball, opponents and teammates, stands on this. A player who can't stop can't catch, shoot or defend.
When can they do it?
| Layer 0Aware | Runs through the hall, stops in balance on a signal and picks a new direction without bumping into anyone. |
| Layer 1Control | Does the same at game speed and sees the ball and a teammate. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Stops and changes direction under contact, at the moment they choose. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Uses stopping and starting to make a defender move. |
What to watch
- Low stop, knees bent
- Eyes up, not on the floor
- Able to go again right after the stop
What often goes wrong
Running on after the stop, or looking at the feet.
