Shooting
From a catch in balance, power from the legs, a long smooth release.
Cue
Push the floor away.
Why
The principles count, not one form: a good catch in balance, power and rhythm, a long release. Small players may have their own form.
When can they do it?
| Layer 1Control | Shoots off a catch close to the rim in balance and nearly always hits the rim. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Shoots within range off a pass, also against a closeout. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Shoots off the dribble and after a fake, and knows their range. |
What to watch
- In balance before the shot
- Power from the legs, rhythm
- Long follow-through
What often goes wrong
Forcing a form the child can't do yet, or shooting from too far.
