Balance and falling: the opener
Head up, feet quiet, up in one movement.
Principle
Balance starts in your ears. Who can fall safely dares to go.
Set-up
Everyone in an area, no ball. Pairs for the second part.
Rules
Part 1, balance (ears): stand on one leg, turn the head slowly left and right, then with eyes closed. Part 2, falling: fall forward and sideways and roll, chin to chest, never catch yourself with a straight wrist, get up straight away. Part 3: push gently against your partner's shoulder; they stay in balance.
Where this fits
Period P1 · Transition & fullcourt
By layer
| Layer 0Aware | Mostly play with balance and rolling. Bring it back briefly every session. |
| Layer 1Control | Fall after contact and after a stop; get up into stance. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Push and be pushed at speed, stay in balance. |
| Layer 3Shape others | Short, as a ritual; players lead it themselves. |
How do you coach it?
Player-centred: variation, questions and room to find a solution.
Precise correction of form is not the criterion here.

Question to observe
Do they get up in one movement, without landing on a straight wrist?
