Full-court 3-on-3: take the nearest player
Always run: to the corner or back.
Principle
The corner runner runs even if the ball doesn't come; the ball handler must see them.
Set-up
Full court, 3-on-3. With many players: two games side by side across the width, or waiting teams that swap after every score.
Rules
After a score or turnover play continues at once: no waiting for an inbound, the nearest player takes it out. Defending in transition: take the nearest player, not your own; only in the half court do you find your own player.
Scoring
Score = 2. Score within five seconds of winning the ball = 3. A contested throw does not count.
Where this fits
Period P1 · Transition & fullcourt
By layer
| Layer 0Aware | Smaller court, everyone touches the ball before a score. |
| Layer 1Control | Decide on the catch; name the sprint to the corner. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Create advantage by switching faster than the opponent. |
| Layer 3Shape others | A team chooses a plan for transition defence. |
How do you coach it?
Intensity, emotion and consequence. The coach protects the rules and stops play as little as possible.
Long explanations and technical correction during play do not belong here.

Works on
Continuous play, switching, running back, creating and recognising advantage
Easier
Shorter court (half court plus a bit).
Harder
No dribbling in your own half.
Question to observe
Does everyone run straight after the switch, or do they watch first?
