Rebound, outlet, running lanes
Safe first, then fast.
Principle
First make the ball safe, then go fast.
Set-up
Per basket: a rebounder under the basket, an outlet on the free-throw line extended, two runners on the baseline.
Rules
The coach misses. Rebound with two hands, ball to the chin, pivot to the sideline, outlet to the wing. The two runners sprint wide all the way to the corners. The outlet passes ahead; finish with a lay-up. Rotate roles.
Where this fits
Period P1 · Transition & fullcourt
By layer
| Layer 0Aware | Only running in wide lanes and catching on the run. |
| Layer 1Control | The whole pattern; catch and decide on the catch. |
| Layer 2Shape your own | Outlet under pressure; the runner chooses corner or rim run. |
| Layer 3Shape others | After a score: quick inbound, same tempo. |
How do you coach it?
Short and precise, coach-led, at most about 10 minutes. Then back to play.
- rebound with two hands, ball to the chin
- pivot to the sideline before the pass
- runners wide, all the way to the corner
Autonomy is not the criterion here.

Works on
A safe first pass, wide running lanes, passing ahead
Easier
Rebound from the coach's hands, no defender.
Harder
A defender on the outlet; the outlet must get open.
Question to observe
Does the rebounder pivot outside before passing?
