Passing game, growing teamgameLearning

Half court. Start with 2 passers; the rest escape. Only the player holding the ball may tag; the ball moves by passing. Tagged = you join the passers. Done when every runner is tagged.

Player-centred: variation, questions and room to find a solution.

Precise correction of form is not the criterion here.

Pivot dribbling under pressuregameLearning

2 players, 1 ball: 1v1 on the pivot. The defender puts real pressure on the ball. The attack protects it with pivot and dribble and may only change pivot foot after a between-the-legs or behind-the-back. Swap after ~30 sec.

2v2 → 3v3, coach as rimmatchCompetition

Half court. Start with 2v2 (7 min), then 3v3 (8 min). The coach stands under the basket as an extra target.

more

Scoring: basket = 2 points. Pass to the coach + an attacker catching the return pass outside the three-point line = 1 point. The passer or a teammate may receive the return; the coach passes back within ~1 sec. After a coach score the attack keeps the ball and must attack the basket before using the coach again. After a basket or turnover possession changes; restart outside the three-point line. Defenders may intercept both passes but may not guard the coach directly. Focus: move after your pass, make space and attack the next advantage. In 3v3: what does the third attacker do to make space or get free?

Intensity, emotion and consequence. The coach protects the rules and stops play as little as possible.

Long explanations and technical correction during play do not belong here.

The first player in line without a ball, the rest with one, from 4 or 5 spots on the floor.

more

    • catch in balance, hands ready
    • rhythm with a dip
    • finish long, hold the follow-through

Every day, every block

  • Is everything safe?
  • Have I had contact with every player?
  • Are they having fun?
  • Are they moving? Running?
  • Are they repeating the focus point?
  • Do I know when to stop play to correct?
  • Do I know how to make it easier or harder?

Questions for the players

  • What was the skill?
  • What was fundamental?
